Fort Bend County Constable Precinct 3 Rob Cook has announced his candidacy for the position he has held for 19 years. Cook is seeking the Republican Party nomination.
After teaching school for a few years and a short stint in the oil field, Cook settled on a career in law enforcement where he has been since 1981.
Since being appointed to the office in 1988, he has seen a lot of changes in the county.
"I have seen four sheriffs, five county judges, three district attorneys as well as a bevy of county commissioners take office. I have been able to work with all these individuals in providing the services of my office to Fort Bend County residents and the public in general, all the while keeping costs at a minimum".
"Our budget is one of the lowest of any office in the county. We provide a valuable return for the investment from the taxpayer. Each year the taxpayers get their dollars' worth from us."
The constable office handles all civil process that comes out of the justice, county and district court systems in the state, as well as Attorney's General papers and process that comes out of the federal courts. They also execute criminal misdemeanor warrants from the various courts.
In the community, they answer calls for assistance in traffic control, work with the schools and other organizations in their needs, help merchants with hot check education, and assist other law enforcement agencies in time of need. With the population of the county growing, Cook has seen enormous change and has always tried to prepare for the future.
"When I took office in '88, the population of the county was about 180,000. My precinct had approximately 60,000 people, total. Now, there are roughly 60,000 registered voters in Precinct 3. I have seen change and have the knowledge, experience, and education to provide for the future."
Cook has a bachelor of science degree from Texas Tech University with postgraduate work from several universities. He has the highest peace officer certification available from the State of Texas and is a certified law enforcement instructor and certified firearms instructor. He is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
He and his wife, Peggy, have been married for 21 years and have two sons, ages 16 and 18, and live in the county between Katy and Richmond.
Cook is a member of Katy Chamber of Commerce, Life member and committeeman of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for 20 years, Life member of Fort Bend County Fair Association for 8 years where he serves as chairman of the calf scramble committee.
He has been involved in Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years. He has been cub master, assistant scoutmaster, director of Day Camp training, a merit badge counselor as well as Friends of Scouting Capital Campaign director.
He also is on the advisory board for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and was a coach, sponsor and board member for Lamar Little League. He is vice-president and co-founder of DreamCatchers, a national 501(c) 3 organization which provides outdoor experiences to physically challenged and terminal situations. Through the years, he has arranged events in requests for Pennsylvania, Colorado, Nebraska and Texas. Every year at Christmas, he facilitates a $25,000 donation of toys from an anonymous benefactor to local ministries and needy organizations mostly in Katy, Stafford and Richmond areas.
As a fifth generation native Texan and lifelong Republican, he is proud to have supported and help build the Republican Party of Fort Bend County.
"I would like to thank everyone for their support over the last 19 years and look forward to representing all the residents of Fort Bend County in the future".
